Previously, we discussed the most dominant league in Europe, the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. However, it is time we give you some information about the 7DAYS EuroCup.

What is it and why is this competition so important?

Europe’s second-tier basketball competition.

Founded by Euroleague Basketball in 2002, the EuroCup (known as 7DAYS EuroCup) is recognized as Europe’s second-tier basketball competition, right behind the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

20 clubs battling each other for one trophy.

In the 2022–23 7DAYS EuroCup season, 20 clubs from all over Europe compete against each other to lift the trophy.

Teams competing in Group A and B in the 2022–23 season

Competition Format

The competition is divided into two main stages — the Regular Season and the Elimination Rounds (subdivided into Eighthfinals, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals).

Regular Season

The 20 teams are divided into Groups A & B, consisting of 10 teams each.

Round-robin format with a total of 18 games played by each team. Then, the eight best teams from each group advance to the knock-out elimination rounds.

The Regular Season began on October 11th, 2022, and is planned to conclude on March 29th, 2023.

Elimination Rounds

Consisting of Eighthfinals, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals, each round is played under a single-game format.

The top eight teams from Group A compete against the top eight teams from Group B. The winner from each phase progresses to the next one.

In the 2022–23 season, the Elimination Rounds will be disputed between April 12th and May 3rd, 2023.

Elimination Rounds Format

The kings of the 7DAYS EuroCup

Virtus Segafredo Bologna claimed the 2021–22 7DAYS EuroCup Champion title after a tough battle against Frutti Extra Bursaspor in last season’s Final — (80–67).

The Spanish team, Valencia Basket, has achieved the most championships in this competition: 2002–03, 2009–10, 2013–14, and 2018–19.
